Since Mr. Cheng relocated to Nanshan Group’s Southeast Asia center to serve as General Counsel, he led a significant restructuring and capital market project across Hong Kong, Singapore, and Indonesia. Based on his previous practice in China, the US, and the UK, Mr. Cheng successfully led a diverse, cross-border Southeast Asian team. He focused on AI Implementation and Training with the adoption of an AI tool for document and case analysis at Nanshan Group, significantly improving legal review efficiency. He also reinforced Team Restructuring and Role Expansion, streamlining the headquarters’ legal department, resulting in leaner operations.

Mr. Cheng initiated multiple important legal practices, including leading restructuring projects (billion HKD level) for Nanshan Group, focusing on strategic expansion in Southeast Asia and enhancing the group’s market positioning and operational efficiencies, and settling a billion RMB level commercial dispute in China and leading cross-border dispute resolution efforts, recovering over 100 million RMB for the company, and successfully spearheading negotiations for Yulong Petrochemical’s potential partnership with Saudi Aramco, involving complex cross-border legal structuring, due diligence, and compliance with international regulatory frameworks.

Mr. Cheng actively contributes to the legal industry. Mr. Cheng maintains a personal blog, "栋见法务," on LexisNexis. Mr. Cheng is an adjunct professor of international business law at Shandong Nanshan College and lectures at various law schools. He participates in roundtable discussions and has been a speaker at prominent events, including LexisNexis Summit (Beijing 2023).           

Mr. Cheng is actively involved in community activities as a guitar player in a local band. Additionally, Mr. Cheng is a passionate photographer, and also the vice-chair of the Longkou City Law Society and the chief legal consultant for the city of Longkou.

Mr. Cheng has consistently demonstrated a growth mindset throughout his career by seeking further education and embracing new technologies.
