Mary Lam
Managing Associate
Timothy Loh LLP
In the past year, Mary Lam combined financial services regulatory, corporate/M&A and dispute resolution work with measurable results. In December 2024, Hong Kong Business named her among “Hong Kong’s most notable lawyers under 40,” and in September 2025, she was listed on ALB Hong Kong Rising Stars 2025.
Mary managed matters with significant deal value, including advising a European-listed company on a restructuring involving loan participation notes totalling USD 280 million, and advising an SFC-licensed investment advisory and asset management firm on a US$100 million joint venture between a Hong Kong-listed company and a prominent Middle East business.
On the contentious side, Mary successfully obtained a stay of proceedings and discharge of an injunction order that unfroze EUR 4 million in assets, and resisted an application for leave to appeal. An accredited general mediator, she represents clients in high-stake commercial disputes, contributing to the growth of her firm's dispute resolution practice.
Mary was also the main handler of at least five private-equity M&A transactions involving Hong Kong-regulated entities valued at a combined US$4 billion, aligning with her firm’s recognition by major directories. For instance, she led Hong Kong workstreams on an acquisition of a European-based managing general agent by a UK-based specialty MGA, coordinating multi-jurisdiction due diligence and regulatory analysis under tight timelines.
Demonstrating her commitment to professional growth, she was admitted as a solicitor of England and Wales in 2025, making her a dual qualified solicitor offering greater value to her clients. Looking ahead, she sees Hong Kong’s legal profession continuing to play a pivotal role in contributing to Hong Kong's status as a global asset and wealth management hub, especially in light of strengthened regulatory collaboration and expanded ties with rapidly growing financial centers. She looks forward to continuing to advise international clients seeking Hong Kong financial services regulatory advice and market entry.
