James Lan (Lan Jiang Feng) coordinates complex China–Indonesia investments spanning foreign investment approvals, land acquisition, due diligence and transaction execution. Between 1 September 2024 and 31 August 2025 his matters included assisting Intco Medical Technology, Co. Ltd in a US$15 million land acquisition for its Indonesian subsidiary in the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone; guiding PT. Guang Ching Nickel Cobalt on a hydrometallurgical project targeting annual production of 80,000 tons of nickel-cobalt intermediates; coordinating for a Chinese state-owned construction enterprise on the acquisition of an Indonesian construction company; and overseeing legal due diligence for a Jiangsu-based mining engineering company’s prospective kaolin investment in Kalimantan.

Lan’s contributions are both strategic and quantifiable. Over the past year he led Chinese enterprises in establishing investment projects in Indonesia totaling over IDR 9.55 trillion, with mandates covering PMA incorporation, regulatory compliance and transaction execution. Flagship work includes advising Sailun Group on a USD 11.1 million tire manufacturing expansion in Indonesia’s Jatengland Industrial Park Sayung—recognized as a “2024 Outbound Legal Service Case Study” and rated Merits Exemplary by LegalOne. In late 2024 he coordinated with Indonesian legal counsels to assist PT. Guang Ching Nickel Cobalt on a USD 1 billion tender, orchestrating contractor selection and specialised equipment procurement while managing fragmented procurement requirements.

Committed to growth, Lan co-authored the Indonesia chapter of The China Enterprises Going Global Legal Guide – Southeast Asia Edition and publishes frequently with Wolters Kluwer and LexisNexis on Indonesian investment and trade law. He mentors MBA students and holds roles including Vice Chair of the Guangzhou Bar Association’s Committee on Foreign-Related Legal Matters and Executive Council Member of the Guangdong Society of International Law. His vision is a legally integrated, commercially grounded profession that bridges legal systems and geopolitical realities across Southeast Asia—an approach he advances by mentoring cross-border lawyers and promoting regulatory awareness among Chinese enterprises expanding abroad.
