With close to a decade of experience & reported decisions in a multitude of areas, Wei Jiet is an established litigator in Malaysia.
In particular, he is highly regarded in the field of public, administrative & constitutional law. He acted for the Clooney Foundation for Justice in the Federal Court’s recent 5-0 decision to strike down portions of Malaysia's Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 which effectively criminalized spontaneous protests. He was also involved in a Court of Appeal decision which struck down parts of Section 233 of Malaysia's Communications & Multimedia Act 1998 that criminalized "offensive" online speech.
Wei Jiet also regularly appears as counsel in corporate & commercial litigation. He successfully lead the defence of several directors of an international engineering consultancy company in a US$15 million minority oppression claim in July 2025, and acted for a business tycoon in a high-stakes family corporate dispute involving US$220 million plantation assets which concluded in January 2025.
His cross-border work includes advising a Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer in a global retrenchment exercise, partnering with regional law firms in ASEAN to protect the rights of 1,200 asylum seekers from Myanmar who were deported from Malaysia, and working with US & UK law firms on novel human-rights related amicus briefs.
He has been praised by clients as “technically brilliant”, “detailed-oriented without ever losing sight of the bigger picture” & “a strategic thinker who is not only sharp on the law, but can invaluably assist in navigating business realities, public relations & the socio-political landscape when needed – an exceptional all-rounder”.
He contributes scholarship, media commentary and regional speaking, and sets out a vision to mentor lawyers on AI-enabled practice and to formalise pro bono commitments while maintaining strong commercial work.
