Derrick Oon is the Managing Partner of Nazreen Oon & Partners, a law firm he co-founded in 2018. He leads the firm’s dispute resolution practice, specialising in contractual, commercial and land-related litigation. 

Recognised for his strategic advocacy and precision in complex disputes, Derrick was named a finalist for “Young Lawyer of the Year” at the Thomson Reuters ALB SE Asia Law Awards 2024. Under his leadership, the firm was also selected as a finalist for “Rising Law Firm of the Year” at both the ALB SE Asia Law Awards 2024 and the ALB Malaysia Law Awards 2025.

Among his notable achievements, Derrick successfully represented a client in enforcing a performance guarantee worth nearly RM10 million, prevailing at both the High Court and Court of Appeal. The decision affirmed an important principle on the enforceability of on-demand guarantees in Malaysia. 

While a litigator who advocates vigorously in court, Derrick is equally pragmatic and and commercially astute. He often guides clients toward amicable settlements or mediation where such approaches offer more favourable commercial outcomes – having by far secured settlements  exceeding RM10 million in total.
