He has particular expertise in the fields of arbitration-related litigation, employment disputes, professional negligence litigation, asset freezing litigation, cryptocurrency disputes, private equity disputes and construction disputes. Yanguang has acted for a diverse portfolio of clients across numerous sectors, including state-owned entities, global multi-national corporations, venture capital funds and wealthy individuals in the marine, energy, infrastructure, technology, and consumer industries.
In the last year, as lead counsel, he successfully represented an investment company in the Singapore High Court over the beneficial ownership of a Singapore luxury property. He also successfully represented the Indonesian national energy company Pertamina in extensive enforcement proceedings before the Singapore International Commercial Court relating to a USD 120 million arbitral award against Udenna and Phoenix Petroleum, resulting in four substantive judgments across the SICC and Court of Appeal—including on novel points under the Hague Service Convention. He also acted for a subsidiary of Malaysia’s Federal Land Development Authority, successfully defending a USD 780 million SIAC award in the SICC. He has more than 40 reported judgments in the Singapore courts.
Yanguang regularly speaks at regional conferences on cutting-edge issues in international commercial litigation. He has been a panellist at conferences in Bahrain, Malaysia and Singapore in the last year, covering topics such as the role of Big Data to cut litigation costs, the risks of increasing AI use in litigation and the rise of international commercial courts in Asia, such as the Singapore and Bahrain International Commercial Courts.
