LexisNexis® Leadership Certifies in Global Privacy

May 17, 2011 — Kerstin Bagus, LexisNexis Global Compliance Director, receives multiple certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP)

Alpharetta, Ga.—LexisNexis® Screening Solutions, a global background check provider, announced its Global Compliance Director, Kerstin Bagus, has received information privacy certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) for demonstrating specific knowledge for U.S., European and Canadian privacy laws, regulations, and requirements for transferring personal data within these jurisdictions.

“This is of specific importance to our customers who obtain and use data worldwide as we supply them compliance guidance to meet each country’s information use and privacy laws. Ultimately, the client is responsible. However, we do all we can to help ensure what we provide our clients is in the acceptable format as required by that country.”

“And clients aren’t the only ones who benefit. We are advocates for candidates as well. We want to ensure we represent their history accurately and protect the privacy of their information,” explains Bagus.

Specifically, the two certifications Bagus received are The Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) and The Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C). Her industry knowledge has been leveraged to help write the ASIS (the international organization of security professional) guidelines for background screening and she serves on several NAPBS (National Association of Professional Background Screeners) committees for best practices and screening guidelines.

Now more than ever, if a company wants to expand internationally, they are looking for providers already doing business where they plan to be. Knowledge of cultural sensitivities, language fluency and/or accuracy of language translation and other country-specific issues affect the amount and accuracy of information gathered. Knowledge of international privacy and data security regulations should be a core competency of a global screening provider, since it’s rarely the focus of the employer.
