Context Wins ‘People’s Choice’ Award in the Inaugural Legaltech Product Innovation Competition at Legalweek
Lex Machina’s Legal Analytics Was Also Named a Finalist
February 1, 2019 — NEW YORK, NY – LexisNexis® Legal & Professional today announced that Context, the first and only case law language analytics solution, won the People’s Choice Award at the inaugural Legaltech Product Innovation Competition held at Legalweek in New York. The competition evaluated the best legal technology products and services over the preceding year according to six judging criteria.
Context was recognized by Legalweek attendees for being “distinctive or fundamentally different from existing products,” enhancing “efficiency and/or productivity,” addressing a “clear market need,” as well as for its superior design, functionality and applicability. Context was one of seven finalists announced in early January. Lex Machina®, a LexisNexis company, was also listed among the finalists for the eleventh expansion of its award-winning Legal Analytics® platform - Legal Analytics for Insurance Litigation.
Context is a key component of the new Lexis Analytics™ suite of products that gives lawyers greater knowledge through data-driven insights. The solution analyzes tens of millions of court documents and extracts specific language that will resonate with a particular judge, including the language a judge cites most often and the rationale behind his or her rulings, to help lawyers draft winning briefs or successfully argue motions. Context also provides detailed analyses on expert witnesses, including specific reasons why their testimony was included or excluded, so attorneys can better select and defend their expert or impeach the opposition’s expert.
Context is the result of integrating industry-leading Ravel Law machine learning powered analytics with the deep case law and expert witness content from Lexis Advance®. The Context development team—attorneys, top data scientists and legal subject-matter experts—have spent more than a decade creating the training data and refining the algorithms that power the solution.
“We are proud to be recognized at Legalweek for this innovative new product,” said Sean Fitzpatrick, NARS Managing Director at LexisNexis. “Context provides detailed analyses of the specific language and reasoning used by judges and expert witnesses, delivering the critical insights attorneys need to develop better arguments and better motions in very specific legal scenarios. This is the first and only case law language solution of its kind in the marketplace, and it is already delivering immediate value to the industry and generating enthusiastic feedback from users.”
