Accuracy

Our indexers and analysts conduct a battery of iterative tests on new index terms time and again. The existing index terms are updated frequently to ensure the maximum level of recall and accuracy. The same taxonomies are used throughout LexisNexis Products.

Language-neutral

For English - whether US or UK, German- and French- we use the same SmartIndexing codes for the documents in several languages. This is to allow you to search among foreign as well as English language sources and documents using English index terms.

Current & Precise

Index terms and hierarchies change sometimes, but many databases do not have any capability to re-index past documents to stay up-to-date. The automatic processes of SmartIndexing crawls all documents in the database quarterly so that all indexing is current. The technology uses codes for indexing for precision. For example, when a company or a country changes its name, it can be recognized instantly.

Narrower term roll up

Subordinate terms include searches for higher level terms unless explicitly excluded by the user. This method matches the natural assumption of most users that, for example, a search on (the broad term) Insurance Products should return an article indexed to (narrower terms) Automobile Insurance or Health Insurance.

The terminology and algorithms needed to generate the most robust and accurate results are created, tested, and maintained by the LexisNexis team of information specialists and subject matter experts.

What is Multi-Language Indexing?

The MULTI-LANGUAGE INDEXING phrase look-up option on our search page allows for a multi-language indexing search. This "word wheel" displays the whole thesaurus that was used for indexing.
