Gerry Hudson: Immigration Doesn't Need More Jim Crow

"Alabama’s immigration law is reminiscent of that dark period in our nation’s history when African Americans suffered the indignity of a legalized, separate and unequal system that was inherently unjust, inhumane and oppressive.  Do we really want to go back in history to a time when the laws of the land threatened social progress and economic opportunities for everyone? Do we really want to go back in time when our nation’s laws forced workers of color into the shadows? Shouldn’t we instead focus on job creation?  It’s mind boggling that Republican leaders like Governor Robert Bentley, the Alabama State Legislature and the federal court would focus on anything else."
