But behind the scenes, a big advance for immigrants in the U.S. is going into effect today, October 28, 2013. It may well save migrant workers and their families billions of dollars. Landmark federal consumer protections are newly available to migrant workers sending money abroad. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) now requires that remittance transfer providers give consumers clear information, upfront, about the price of sending money to other countries.
