YouTube Protected By Safe Harbor In Viacom Suit, New York Federal Judge Rules

NEW YORK - A group of copyright holders, headed by Viacom International Inc., failed to establish that YouTube Inc. violated the provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) related to user content uploaded to www.youtube.com, thereby entitling YouTube and its parent companies to safe harbor from copyright infringement claims under the act, a New York federal judge ruled April 18 (Viacom International Inc., et al. v. YouTube Inc., et al., No. 1:07-cv-02103, S.D. N.Y.; 2013 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 56646; See 4/26/12, Page 4).
