Stanford Edges out Harvard in Latest US News Law School Rankings

No change at the top, Yale continues to hold the honor that Law School has clung to for more than 20 years.  This year, Stanford jumps to the number two position, pushing Harvard to third.  The rest of the Top 10 according to the U.S. News Rankings:

4) Columbia University

5) University of Chicago

6) NYU

7) (Tie) University of California, Berkeley

                University of Pennsylvania

                University of Virginia

10) University of Michigan

In the part-time law school rakings, Georgetown comes in first with George Washington University second and Brooklyn Law School third.  Georgetown also tops the list for clinical training with nearby American University (Washington) coming in second and NYU third.  Leading the list in other specialized law categories this year include:

Environmental Law:  Vermont Law School

Dispute Resolution:  Pepperdine University

Healthcare Law: St. Louis University

IP Law:  University of California, Berkeley

International Law:  New York University

Legal Writing: Seattle University

Tax Law: New York University

Trial Advocacy:  Stetson University

One more important category ranked by U.S. News  is reputation.  How do recruiters at top US law firms rank law schools? The list starts the same as the US News overall rankings with Harvard in first, Sanford second, Yale third, Columbia fourth--but in a tie with the University of Michigan.  After that, NYU and the University of Virginia tie at 6th, followed by a five-way tie for 8th with Cornell, Duke, Northwestern, U. Cal Berkeley and the University of Chicago.
