New York Federal Judge Certifies Class Suing Over Debt Collection Practices

BUFFALO, N.Y. - A New York federal judge, in a decision filed Sept. 16, granted certification to a class suing over debt collectors adding a court filing fee to the balance of the debt; however, the judge rejected the claim that a new validation notice was required (Michael Hallmark, et al. v. Cohen & Slamowitz, LLP, et al., No. 11-842, W.D. N.Y.; 2013 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 132120).
