Judge Modifies Awards In Settlement Of Credit Card Class Action

MINNEAPOLIS - A federal judge in Minnesota on Nov. 21 granted final approval to the settlement of a class action alleging that a hotel violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act (FCATA) by failing to redact customers' debit and credit card numbers from receipts but with a "significant reduction" to the proposed awards to class representatives, and she deferred a ruling on attorney fees, calling the requested rate "exorbitant" (Britt M. Fouks, et al. v. Red Wing Hotel Corp. Inc., No. 12-2160, D. Minn.; 2013 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 165588).
