Mealey's Insurance - Judge Says Insurer Entitled To Advances, Not Attorney Fees, In Fraud Case

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. - A federal judge in Illinois on July 21 ruled held that an insurance company that was awarded summary judgment in an insurance fraud suit was entitled to recover $46,079.31 in advances it paid to a woman on her insurance policy but that the company's request for attorney fees was untimely because it was filed more than 14 days after the ruling was entered (Metropolitan Casualty Insurance Company v. Georgia Goriola, No. 11-cv-00745-DRH-DGW, S.D. Ill.; 2014 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 98601).
