NEW ORLEANS - The federal judge in Louisiana overseeing litigation related to allegedly defective drywall made by Chinese manufacturers found Taishan Gypsum Co. Ltd., formerly known as Shandong Taihe Dongxin Co. Ltd., in contempt of court on July 17 for failing to appear, ordered it to pay $55,000 in sanctions and ruled that it could not do business in the United States until it participated in the litigation (In re: Chinese Manufactured Drywall Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2047, Germano v. Taishan Gypsum Co. Ltd., et al., No. 09-cv-6687, E.D. La.).
