Mealey's IP/Tech - Decision To Allow Posting Of 3D-Printable Gun Plans Ruled Arbitrary, Capricious

SEATTLE - Mostly granting summary judgment to a coalition of U.S. states that opposed a recent decision by the U.S. Department of State to permit the online distribution of 3D-printable gun plans, a Washington federal judge on Nov. 12 found the agency's decision to be "arbitrary and capricious" and in violation of the Administrative Procedure Act (APA) (Washington, et al. v. U.S. Department of State, et al., No. 2:18-cv-01115, W.D. Wash., 2019 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 195928).
