The latest Quinnipiac University poll shows Christie has a 74 percent approval rating. This adoration for a Republican governor is in a blue state where the roads are falling apart, property taxes have soared by more than a fifth since 2010 and more than one in six state residents live below the official poverty line.

Christie's popularity has risen as he has provided at least $1.5 billion to companies under the guise of job creation, some of which simply moved their operations from one location in the Garden State to another. That comes to about $170 per resident...
