Ireland Is Not A Tax Haven, Dammit

... The Irish are... nervous after the U.S. Senate's permanent investigations subcommittee hearing last week at which apparently the terms "Ireland" and "tax haven" were used in proximity about a billion times.

The Irish are so worked up that The Irish Times
reported Monday [May 27th] (page one, above the fold) that, "The Government is planning to write a US senate committee in Washington disputing the claim made last week that Ireland is a tax haven."...

As John McManus put it in an opinion piece in The Irish Times, "one of Ireland's least publicized achievements in recent years has been keeping ourselves off the OECD list of tax havens." The Irish want no part of that listing...

Ireland will do what it needs to do to protect its sovereignty above its business as a tax haven. The OECD will do what it must do so that it doesn't become irrelevant. The nations that are losing revenue to the manipulations of some multinationals will not stand for the status quo. Change here is inevitable.
