U.S., Norway Sign FATCA Agreement; Spain Clears Way for Signing Its IGA

The United States and Norway on April 15 signed a reciprocal bilateral agreement setting out the Model I government-to-government approach to implementing the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act, while the Spanish government authorized the signing of an intergovernmental agreement with the U.S.
 
The Norway-U.S. intergovernmental agreement (IGA), signed in Oslo, is the sixth FATCA agreement signed by the United States. The U.S. has also signed IGAs based on the reciprocal Model I template with the United Kingdom, Denmark, Ireland, and Mexico. An IGA based on the Model II template was signed with Switzerland in February. The U.S. is also in the final stages of negotiating an IGA with Italy.
