NC: Industrial Commission Clarifies Role of Interpreters, Says Summaries, Commentary Inappropriate

RALEIGH, NC - The North Carolina Industrial Commission has issued a policy statement concerning the rule of interpreters in the workers' compensation system., pointing out that it is inappropriate for interpreters and translators to write observational summary reports that include conversations between injured workers and medical or vocational providers. The Commission says that interpreters should only provide a word-for-word translation and should refrain from summarizing or commenting on the conversations between injured workers and medical or vocational providers.
