This tutorial module explains how to select a source for your search with the LexisNexis® Quicklaw services™.
LexisNexis Quicklaw services™ offers several ways for you to select a source for your search. All are easy to use, but you may find that one particular method fits your research style best.
Selecting a Specific Source. On the Start page, you can choose from a list of commonly used sources from the "My General Search Sources" area, located at the bottom of the page. This list is customisable. The sources are listed in categories, such as Cases or Commentary, so it is easy to find the one you need. To search a source, just select the Search link next to the source name. Or select the Browse link next to the source name to retrieve its table of contents. The source you select appears on the appropriate search form, where you can enter your search terms and run the search.
On many Search forms, you can also use the source drop-down list to select a previously-used source.
Using the Source Directory. If you do not find the source you need through the Quick Sources form or Source drop-down menu, use the Source Directory. You can retrieve the Source Directory by selecting the More Sources link on a search form, or by selecting the Source Directory tab at the top of your screen.
There are two ways to find a source using the Source Directory. Use the Browse Sources tab to explore the entire list of subscribed sources, or use the Search for a Source tab to search for a specific subscribed source. Use the Browse Sources tab when you are not sure what source you need. It lists categories of sources that you select to find the appropriate source. The source categories include all your subscribed sources, but you can restrict the display by publication or content type. You can also use the Filter By feature to view just those sources related to a particular country or topic.
Selecting a category name displays a list of additional related categories and individual sources. To choose a source for your search, select the source name. You can add more sources to the search if necessary. The number of sources you select is listed at the top of the page. As you choose sources, they appear in the Selected Sources list for your reference. You can use the list to easily remove one or more sources from your search. To remove an individual source, click the Remove link associated with the source name. Or click the Remove All link at the bottom of the list to remove all the sources from your search. When you've selected your sources, select the OK-Continue button to return to the Search page. The selected sources appear on the Search page.
Use the Search for a Source tab when you know part of a source name, or want to check if a specific source is available. In the Keyword field on the Search for a Source page, enter the name of the source you want to find, or one or more words in the name of the source. Then select the Find Sources button. The Search for a Source feature displays a list of sources matching your search terms. To choose a source for your search, select the source name. When you've selected your sources, click the OK-Continue button to return to the Search page. The selected sources appear on the Search page.
