3 Key Takeaways from Securities Class Action Filings Report

Once again, Cornerstone Research and the Stanford Law School Securities Class Action Clearinghouse have prepared an annual report on the securities class action filings.  And, once again, the report, Securities Class Action Filings—2013 Year in Review, has a plethora of information.

We think the following three conclusions in the report are most noteworthy:

  • Health care, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical companies together accounted for 21 percent of total filings in 2013.
  • Foreign filings, led by filings against Chinese companies, continued in 2013 at historically high rates.
  • 55 class actions were filed against firms listed on the New York Stock Exchange, while 97 were filed against firms listed on the NASDAQ.
