BIA Will Solicit Amicus Briefs |
On June 19, 2015, the Executive Office for Immigration Review announced that the Board of Immigration Appeals has launched a one-year pilot program to solicit amicus briefs from interested parties. The Board will post invitations on a public website that describes the legal issue(s) involved in the case and instructions for entering an appearance and filing the brief. ICE Issues Guidance on Transgender Detainees
On June 19, 2015, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement issued a memorandum providing guidance to field offices on the placement and care of transgender detainees. Advocates have criticized ICE for detaining transgender individuals in the first place, saying they face a heightened risk of sexual assault. The memorandum, Further Guidance Regarding the Care of Transgender Detainees, is reprinted at Appendix B.
