ICE Director Sarah Saldaña - Private Detention Contracts Essential (Law360)

Allissa Wickham, Law360, Sept. 22, 2016 - "The head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Thursday that halting the agency’s use of private detention centers would basically turn its system “upside down,” with her remarks coming not long after it was revealed that ICE’s parent agency would look at ending private immigrant detention. Appearing before the House Judiciary Committee, ICE Director Sarah Saldaña said that eliminating use of the agency’s private detention facilities would upend the agency’s system, as it’s highly dependent on contractors when it comes to detention centers. “It would pretty much turn our system upside down, sir, because we are almost completely contractor run with respect to our detention facilities,” Saldaña told committee chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va."
