Bank Attorney David H. Baris Joins BuckleySandler LLP

WASHINGTON, D.C. — BuckleySandler LLP, a leading financial services law firm based in Washington, D.C., has announced that David H. Baris, a founding partner of Kennedy & Baris LLP, has joined the firm as a partner.

Baris has more than 20 years experience advising financial institutions on mergers and acquisitions; tender offers; securities offerings, including trust preferred securities; proxy contests; and other management and policy matters. Other areas of expertise include securities reporting and disclosure, regulatory compliance, strategies for bank directors to avoid personal liability, corporate governance and holding company formation. Baris has assisted many financial institutions facing difficult challenges, even insolvency, in developing and implementing strategies designed to stabilize and recapitalize them.

Baris serves as executive director of the American Association of Bank Directors (AABD). In addition to providing directors with educational programs, the association represents bank director interests before federal and state legislatures, bank regulatory and supervisory agencies and federal and state courts.

Before forming Kennedy & Baris in 1987, Baris served as regional counsel to the Comptroller of the Currency from 1977 to 1983, and counsel to a subcommittee of the Government Operations Committee, U.S. House of Representatives, from 1972 to 1974. From 2000 to 2004, Baris was a director of Mutual of Omaha Insurance Co. and United of Omaha Life Insurance Co., serving on their executive, audit, and investment committees.

Baris received a bachelor's degree from Brandeis University in 1966, and his J.D. from The University of Connecticut School of Law in 1970. He writes and lectures widely on banking topics.
