LOS ANGELES - Jeffer Mangels Butler & Marmaro LLP (JMBM), a full-service law firm with offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Orange County, has announced that it has changed its name to Jeffer Mangels Butler & Mitchell LLP.
The name change was effective Aug. 5, 2010, and coincides with the date that Marc Marmaro, one of the firm's founding partners, will be sworn in as a judge in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Marmaro's appointment to the bench was announced by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in June.
At the same time that Marmaro's name was relinquished from the firm's name on Aug. 5, a new name was added. The firm's partnership has elected to include Burton Mitchell as a name partner, in recognition of his commitment and contributions to the firm for almost 25 years. Mitchell is the firm's assistant managing partner and, as head of JMBM's Tax Department, has built one of the leading Tax, Trusts and Estates practices in California.
Mitchell earned an LL.M. in Taxation from the New York University School of Law; a J.D. from Georgetown University; a CPA in Maryland; and a B.B.A., summa cum laude, from the City University of New York at Baruch College. He has been recognized as one of Southern California's Best Lawyers in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Marmaro received a J.D. cum laude, Order of the Coif, from New York University School of Law and a B.A. from George Washington University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
