Legal AI in Action: Highlights from the 2025 LexisNexis Legal AI Showcase

Across Australia and New Zealand, legal professionals are embracing a new era of AI-powered transformation.

At the 2025 LexisNexis Legal AI Showcase, hundreds of attendees tuned in to see how Lexis+ AI is reshaping the profession. From trusted legal research to integrated legal workflows, and what’s next with the launch of Protégé General AI.

Hosted by Jessica Clark, Emerging Technology Solutions Consultant, and Aaron, Customer Success Manager, the Showcase revealed powerful new insights from the 2025 AI Sentiment Survey, live workflow demonstrations, and a preview of the expanding Lexis+ AI roadmap.

AI Adoption Surges Across the Legal Sector

According to the 2025 LexisNexis AI Sentiment Survey, generative AI has become a defining force across the profession:

  • Over 69% of legal professionals are already using or planning to use generative AI tools.
  • Confidence in AI has surged from 75% (in 2023) to 90% in 2025, driven by familiarity, client acceptance, and measurable efficiency gains.
  • Small firms are leading adoption, to stay agile, while large firms and government departments are investing strategically to balance innovation with compliance.

“Legal AI isn’t just a tool - it’s a catalyst for transformation,” said Jessica Clark. “Firms that combine AI-driven efficiency with strong risk management and client-centric service will be best positioned to thrive.”

The survey also found that firms using AI cite faster work delivery, reclaimed billable hours, and reduced write-offs as key benefits. Lawyers also reported improved work-life balance and greater client satisfaction.

However, confidence in AI hasn’t erased caution. The top three concerns remain:

  1. Hallucinations (AI-generated inaccuracies),
  2. Data confidentiality, and
  3. Over-reliance on automation.

This is where LexisNexis’ trusted, content-grounded workflow approach sets it apart, combining legal-grade content, privacy-by-design principles, and human oversight across every stage of the legal workflow.

From Legal Research to End-to-End Legal Workflows

Since the introduction of Lexis Advance in 2015, LexisNexis has continuously evolved to support the full legal workflow, not only research.

Jessica noted that Lexis Advance’s “catalogue-esque” interface encouraged complex Boolean strategies, while Lexis+ (launched 2023) delivered a modern, analytics-driven experience ready for generative AI.

By mid-2024, the first AI Assistant provided four core workflow capabilities:

  1. Conversational legal research.
  2. Drafting assistance.
  3. Case summarisation.
  4. Document analysis.

These capabilities have now been expanded with enhanced drafting tools, document vaults, and integration with Microsoft Word, allowing lawyers to work where they already are - with less context switching and greater productivity.

“Protégé is evolving to be available within your workflows where you work — not only in the web application, but also in Microsoft,” said Jessica.

Introducing Protégé General AI: Secure Flexibility, One Continuous Workflow

One of the most anticipated Showcase announcements was Protégé General AI, designed to complement LexisNexis’ trusted Legal AI with broader, secure general-purpose AI capabilities.

Unlike consumer tools, Protégé General AI is built inside the Lexis+ AI encrypted environment, giving users safe access to leading models - including GPT-5, GPT-4o, OpenAI o3, and Claude Sonnet 4 - all without leaving the platform or compromising data integrity.

“Our customers told us they wanted to do more without switching between tools,” said Aaron. “Protégé General AI gives them that flexibility, securely. Whether you’re brainstorming, drafting, or planning, everything stays protected within LexisNexis.”

Key workflow features include:

Flexible Model Choice: Pick a model suited to the workflow stage — unified reasoning, rapid exploration, advanced analysis, or fluent drafting.

Seamless Workflow Integration: Toggle between Legal AI and General AI within the same task flow, without breaking context.

CaseBase Citation Agent: Automatically verifies legal citations; maintaining defensibility across the legal workflow.

Enterprise-Grade Security: Encryption in transit and at rest; no user data used for external model training.

Privacy, Hosting, and Trust

During the Q&A, attendees pressed on privacy, so Jessica invited Product Manager Rupert to address it directly.

“Legal AI is hosted locally in Australia, ensuring full data sovereignty. General AI, which leverages external models, is processed offshore - but all interactions remain encrypted and under LexisNexis’ control. No data leaves our secure ecosystem.”

This clarification reinforced that LexisNexis delivers workflow flexibility without compromising regulatory or client confidentiality obligations.

Expanding the Lexis+ AI Ecosystem: Workflow Integrations for 2026

The Showcase also previewed major workflow-focused innovations arriving next year:

  • Deeper Microsoft 365 integrations for seamless in-document workflows.
  • Enhanced DMS integration, enabling lawyers to securely query and synthesise internal content.
  • Expanded Vaults: up to 50 Vaults per user and 500 documents per Vault — ideal for matter preparation, research workflows and multi-document analysis.

These developments reinforce LexisNexis is leading the legal profession into an AI-powered future grounded in workflow continuity, trusted content, and secure innovation.

“It’s about meeting lawyers where they work,” Jessica concluded. “Protégé brings Legal AI and General AI together in one secure environment, helping professionals work smarter, think deeper, and deliver greater value across the entire legal workflow.”

The 2025 Legal AI Showcase reinforced one clear message: LexisNexis is leading the legal profession into an AI-powered future built on trust, accuracy, and accountability.

“It’s about meeting lawyers where they work,” Jessica Clark concluded. “Protégé brings Legal AI and General AI together in one secure environment — helping professionals work smarter, think deeper, and deliver greater value to clients.”
