Finding Legal Advisors for Transactional Work

I recently assisted a researcher who was looking for approaches to finding legal advisors connected to transactional finance work. We looked at two tools, and found that filters exist that easily allow you to search for specific law firms or surface the law firms in the results for quick review.

The first tool is Market Standards, found in the Practical Guidance Experience on Lexis+. Market Standards contains over 38,000 transactions from 2008 to the present. A total of 150+ data points are searchable for deals from 2017 to present, for public target transactions initially valued at $100+ million and private-target transactions initially valued at $25+ million. All transactions in the database have 80+ searchable data points.

In the Target/Acquirer Information filter, you’ll find sub filters for Law Firm or Financial Advisor.

The second tool is Intelligize. Intelligize is a tool that allows for sophisticated and deep research into SEC filings going back decades.

You can search for law firms in the Advisor Information filter, or you can display law firms in the results.

Give these two tools a try if you are ever faced with this research challenge.
