Librarian Relations Consultant Research Tip: Advanced Patent Searching
All U.S. and international patents on the Lexis Advance service are now powered by LexisNexis TotalPatent One®, but the interface may be unfamiliar to you, or you may wish to refine by patent number, title, assignee, claims or other specific parts of the patents.
In the Advanced Search form, select TotalPatent One® on the right. Click the Objects link. This will display the categories of specialized search segments.
For more possibilities, click the down arrows next to Date, Name, Legal, Text or Class.
Make your selection, add text where indicated and search. You may add additional segments with one of three connectors (Or, And, Not) between them.
NOTE: There are many additional segments one can search in the TotalPatent One® service. The best way to find them is to pull up the User manual (click the “?” on the bottom right corner on the search screen). To find how to search additional parts of the patents, use your browser’s Find feature (typically CTRL+F).
