Settings in Lexis+

If you are interested in changing the default settings to enhance your Lexis+ experience, these are my recommendations for librarians and information professionals.

You’ll find Settings under the more drop-down list, the 3 dots in the global navigation bar:

Settings are divided into 5 tabs:

  1. Global
  2. My Account
  3. Notifications
  4. Appearance
  5. Lexis+

Global

  • Starting product – The default is Lexis+, you can change that to another product using the dropdown menu in the box. Your change takes effect the next time you sign into the product.
  • Filter criteria
    • Choose which jurisdiction, location, or courts to display first. My recommendation is to leave these blank, since librarians usually search various topics at any given moment.
    • Sort by – the default is Number of results. My recommendation is Alphabetically because I find it easier to read through the listings in the filters when they are in alphabetical order.
  • Search results
    • Results number – the default is 10 which helps the page load faster. My recommendation is 50 because I prefer to see as many results as possible to help me determine my next move.
  • Content order – this setting allows you to change the sort order of results depending on the content.
    • Relevance is the default Sort by setting for all content.
    • You can select the content you want to change; and continue adding content types to reflect your preferences.
    • My recommendations
      • News – change to Date (Newest – Oldest)
      • Legal News – change to Date (Newest – Oldest)
      • Dockets – change to Date (Newest – Oldest)
      • US SEC Filings – change to Date (Newest – Oldest)

My Account

  • You can reset your password at this tab.

Notifications

  • Shared items – You can indicate when you want to be notified of changes to any items you have shared within the Lexis+ system.
  • Dockets – you can choose this option if you want to be notified when a docket has been updated.
  • Delivery requests – you can select if you want to be notified of any delivery challenges.
    • My recommendation – select notifications if
      • A request takes longer than 48 hours to complete
      • A request is over the page limit

Appearance

  • Text Display
    • Document view
    • Search results view
    • My recommendation – make changes depending on the screen size you have, the amount of light, and other factors that impact your ability to easily read the text.

Lexis+

  • Starting product – select which Experience you want to be your landing page.
  • Search
    • Search suggestions
    • My recommendation – select all the Groups
      • Company
      • Sources
      • Documents
      • Legal Phrases
      • Suggested Questions
    • Search criteria
      • Requirements
      • My recommendation – select both
        • Included legal phrase equivalents with search
        • Recognize and use legal entities when performing a search
    • Preferred search type
    • My recommendation is Expanded – Show results that contain at least one search term
  • Filter criteria
    • Requirements – my recommendation is to not select either of these options
  • Search results
    • Display this type first by default
      • The default is Cases, my recommendation is to change this to the content you tend to search the most. For me, that is News.
    • Case law (does not apply in condensed view) – my recommendation is Overview and Terms to reflect my preferred use of Boolean logic.
    • Other categories – my recommendation is Terms, Search terms in context to reflect my preferred use of Boolean logic.
  • Recently viewed
    • Mark recently viewed items (Does not apply to public records)  – my recommendation is to turn on this feature.

And you no longer need to scroll down and select “Save Changes to Settings & Close” for changes to be applied. Your changes are now automatically saved.
