Using the USCS Popular Names Table to Locate Federal Statutes

Frequently we may know the popular name of a statute, but not it’s citation. The Popular Names Table makes it easy to find not only the statute, but also amendments to that statute.  To access the table, type Popular Names Table in the search box and click on the title when you see it appear beneath the search box:


Note that you can pin or favorite this source to find it quickly.

 


In the search box for the source, enter the popular name of the statute and click search. It’s best to spell out the name of statute rather than using an acronym:

 


Clicking on the popular name of the statute will take you to the history of that statute starting with its enactment through subsequent amendments. You’ll be able to link to the Public Law version, the version published in the Statutes at Large, and the codified version of the statute.
