Nursing Home Oversight Improvements in VA

Virginia Touts Improved Oversight of Nursing Homes

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) hosted a public event last week to highlight improvements in oversight of the state’s 300 nursing homes. Those improvements include the filling of key leadership positions at the Virginia Department of Health’s Office of Licensure and Certification and the opening of a new regional office in Northern Virginia. Timelines for filling open nursing home positions have decreased from over 90 days in 2023-2024 to 58, and workforce retention has also improved, with medical facility inspector vacancies having declined from 28 in July 2025 to 11 in December 2025. The state has also launched a new portal to track complaints from nursing home residents, their families, staff and advocates. (INSURANCE JOURNAL)
