The Trump administration released an “AI Action Plan,” aimed at speeding the development of artificial intelligence in the United States, including by removing “red tape and onerous regulation.” Among other things the plan recommends that federal agencies with “AI-related discretionary programs...consider a state’s AI regulatory climate when making funding decisions and limit funding if the state’s AI regulatory regimes may hinder the effectiveness of that funding or award.” (NEW YORK TIMES, WHITE HOUSE)
New York Sen. Andrew Gounardes (D) has introduced bills that would require social media platforms to display warning labels (SB 4505) and require social media companies to let users turn off the algorithms that determine the content they see (SB 4506). The warning label measure has already been passed by both chambers. The algorithm control measure is in the Senate’s Committee on Internet and Technology. (STATE OF POLITICS, LEXISNEXIS STATE NET)
