"Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides counsel and guidance to explain legal considerations and analysis affecting component program operations, as required for compliance with federal law, including but not limited to the Immigration and Nationality Act, the Privacy Act, the FOIA, the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Paperwork Reduction Act.
  • Provides legal counsel on a variety of complex matters affecting EOIR, the mission of EOIR, and matters relating to the administration of law in assisting with the day-to-day functions and legal operations of EOIR.
  • Reviews proposed changes in applicable laws and regulations, solicits comments, and formulates proposed EOIR positions for presentation to senior agency officials, Congress, the Executive, or regulatory agencies.
  • Prepares legal opinions and analysis responding to questions raised in the consideration and evaluation of key legal issues in conjunction with other components of EOIR.
  • Provides legal counsel and advice to the Supervisory Attorney Advisor, the Deputy General Counsel, the General Counsel and senior agency officials on extremely complex and controversial matters of law and policy impacting the agency, including in the areas of immigration law, privacy, records and other General Law Unit matters. Disseminates information and guidance to field attorneys and agency staff.
  • Provides guidance and assistance on operational, legal, and policy issues with other federal agencies or non-governmental organizations.
  • Performs other General Law Unit duties, as assigned.
Salary: $132,368 - $183,500 per year
