Legal market start-ups receive hands-on mentoring, access to cutting-edge tools, technologies and other unique benefits designed to advance their businesses
August 7, 2018 — RALEIGH, NC – LexisNexis® today announced that it is accepting applications for the third cohort of the LexisNexis Legal Tech Accelerator. The program is designed to give start-ups a leg-up in the rapidly expanding legal tech industry. The accelerator leverages LexisNexis deep expertise in legal, technology and start-up domains, and industry-leading market position to advise and incubate program participants.
The accelerator will be co-located in the Menlo Park, CA offices of Lex Machina and at the LexisNexis Raleigh Technology Center in Raleigh, NC. The program will again be led by Lex Machina CEO, Josh Becker; Chief Evangelist, Owen Byrd; and LexisNexis Vice President of Product Management, Jeff Pfeifer; with additional support from LexisNexis Chief Technology Officer, Jeff Reihl, and Chief Product Officer, Jamie Buckley.
“After two successful cohorts, we are pleased to announce the next round of our Tech Accelerator,” said Jeff Pfeifer. “LexisNexis is a leader in legal market innovation and this accelerator supports broader innovation in legal community. Twelve companies have now completed the LexisNexis Legal Tech Accelerator program, with each continuing on a remarkable path of growth and evolution.”
“Not only do you learn how to run a legal tech company from some of the best to do it, but the executive team is extremely well connected in Silicon Valley and can make introductions to people you never thought accessible,” said Ryan Alshak, CEO of Ping, a prior participant in the LexisNexis Legal Tech Accelerator and the 2017 American Bar Association Legal Tech Start-up of the Year. “It was an absolute privilege to have participated in the accelerator's inaugural batch and we are still reaping the rewards many times over.”
As part of the three-month program, accelerator participants will engage in a rigorous curriculum designed for early-stage companies in the legal market:
Legal Tech Accelerator participants will also have access to cutting-edge tools and technologies from LexisNexis, and will be able to leverage the company’s established relationships with Stanford University, North Carolina State University, Silicon Valley businesses, VCs and influencers to grow their organizations.
“Lex Machina has deep roots in Silicon Valley and LexisNexis is embedded in North Carolina’s Research Triangle with offices on Centennial Campus at North Carolina State University,” noted Josh Becker, CEO of Lex Machina. “Being actively involved in Stanford University’s CODEX program, and having started as a special interest project at Stanford before spinning off as a start-up, we know first-hand the struggles that legal tech start-ups go through. The goal of our program is to directly address the unique market challenges of launching a company in the legal market.”
