New user interface, enhanced offline reading capabilities and tools for managing notetaking result from extensive cooperation with customers and law librarians.
January 30, 2020 — New York, NY—LexisNexis® Legal & Professional today announced comprehensive updates to its LexisNexis® Digital Library platform, which now has a completely redesigned interface and a number of beneficial new features that subscribers have been asking for. The LexisNexis Digital Library, a platform offering one of the largest collections of legal eBook publications, now includes a more personalized home page for individual users, better tools for managing notetaking and offline reading capabilities that are tailored to legal librarians and legal professionals.
The completely rebuilt interface of LexisNexis Digital Library reflects an intense focus on the user experience and is based on many hours of observation and records of users’ journeys through real-life legal research workflows. LexisNexis has also incorporated extensive feedback from law librarians into the design and features of the product.
Users signing in to the LexisNexis Digital Library will now see a personalized front-and-center workspace that makes it easy to quickly resume work where they last left off—including links to titles they have used recently and notes they’ve taken on those titles. Inside the library, users can quickly sort, filter, organize and download any or all of their notes and highlights from all of their eBooks for faster consolidation inside the application. Within an eBook, users can easily color code and highlight passages with embedded citations and add their own notes. Offline reading in the LexisNexis Digital Library has also been significantly enhanced. The new updates make it possible for users to have rule books, textbooks and practice guides at their fingertips wherever they go, and it’s easy to extract components of their research to attach and share via email.“Today’s legal professionals frequently need access to their LexisNexis Digital Library content and personal notes on the go in order to maximize productivity when not at their desks,” said Deana Sparling, senior director of LexisNexis Digital Library & eBooks at LexisNexis. “Our new, proprietary e-reader application that we developed with OverDrive® is highly customized for legal research, giving users access to our more than 3,800 publications while enabling them to be more productive in situations where offline access is a challenge.”Work on the new LexisNexis Digital Library began in 2018 with more than six months of customer discovery—including surveys, phone interviews and discussion groups—before the company began development in collaboration with OverDrive, a global leader in digital eBooks, audiobooks and magazine distribution to more than 45,000 libraries and schools in 78 countries.Steve Potash, founder and CEO of OverDrive, stated, “For this latest release, LexisNexis and OverDrive have leveraged all the best practices OverDrive has gained from the education market, the best features from our public library eBook platform and extensive legal market insights. We’ve rebuilt the LexisNexis Digital Library from the ground up.”“OverDrive’s deep expertise in digital content technology and distribution made it the perfect partner to collaborate with for our newly enhanced digital library offerings,” said Sparling. “Their understanding of library content distribution requirements is unmatched, and the company shares our strong commitment to understanding and delivering on reader imperatives.”Launched in 2012, LexisNexis Digital Library is used by attorneys, law students, law librarians, judges, library patrons and other legal researchers at federal and state court libraries, large law firms, law schools, federal and state agencies, and public law libraries. The library offers access to more than 3,800 LexisNexis titles, books from other legal publishers and titles from the OverDrive® Marketplace™, including audiobooks, digital eBooks and videos from thousands of publishers. To learn more about LexisNexis Digital Library, visit lexisnexis.com/en-us/products/digital-library.page.
