"Lorena Vargas grew up in Tucson. Her mother is a naturalized U.S. citizen. But the 19-year-old undocumented immigrant has been stuck in Mexico since she traveled out of the U.S. in February 2012 to apply for a legal visa at the U.S. consulate in Juarez and was denied. Since then, she has been unable to work or go to school. Relatives in Mexico ostracized her when they learned she is gay, she said. And she said she was raped by a neighbor after renting an apartment by herself. Life has been “really bad,” Vargas said. “I’ve been through a lot in Mexico.” Vargas will be among 30 undocumented “dreamers” who will attempt to re-enter the U.S. on Monday by turning themselves in to U.S. border officers at a legal port of entry in Laredo, Texas." - Arizona Republic, Sept. 27, 2013.
