Burton LeBlanc Hired By La. Office Of Coastal Protection And Restoration

BATON ROUGE, La. - Environmental attorney Burton LeBlanc of Baton Rouge and his firm Baron & Budd have been retained by Louisiana Attorney General James D. "Buddy" Caldwell to provide counsel to the state of Louisiana's designated trustees in connection with issues related to the Deepwater Horizon explosion and resulting oil spill.

The firm has been retained specifically to provide a comprehensive evaluation of environmental and economic damage and will work with BP to ensure that the state is fairly compensated for damage to its natural resources and economy.

Under the Federal Oil Pollution Act and the Louisiana Oil Spill Prevention and Response Act, the state will seek to recover natural resource damages pursuant to these statutes and  Baron & Budd will assist the state in developing a natural resource and economic damage assessment that will be presented to BP.

LeBlanc is an environmental legal specialist who heads Baron & Budd, P.C.'s Louisiana practice from the firm's Baton Rouge office. Both LeBlanc, a Louisiana native, and the law firm Baron & Budd bring extensive environmental experience to the Gulf oil spill case. LeBlanc has served as president of the Louisiana Association for Justice and has been appointed to numerous committees by federal courts and the Louisiana Supreme Court.

Baron & Budd is a firm with broad environmental experience and has been hired by many state attorneys general, municipalities and water districts to represent them in cases involving water contamination.  Most recently, the firm has begun representing individuals and businesses affected by Gulf oil spill and was actively involved in the MDL judicial panel discussions in Boise, Idaho, last month that resulted in the selection of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana as the venue for that litigation.
