BOSTON - Goodwin Procter LLP, a national Am Law 50 firm, has announced that Daniel J. Tyukody has joined the firm's Litigation Department in Los Angeles as a member of its Securities Litigation & White Collar Defense Practice.
He will focus on all aspects of securities litigation and regulatory enforcement. Named one of the "Top 500 Lawyers in America" for the past three years by Lawdragon Magazine and one of the "Top Securities Litigators in California" by the Daily Journal, Tyukody joins Goodwin from Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.
Tyukody has been involved in numerous high-profile securities litigation matters resulting from the financial crisis, winning important victories for IndyMac Bancorp, Novastar Financial Corp. and Pacific Capital Bancorp. In addition, he represents a major for-profit publicly traded education company in two different securities class actions as well as related derivative cases, and a private sovereign wealth fund in matters related to the Madoff Ponzi scheme.
As lead trial counsel, Tyukody obtained a complete defense verdict in 2005 in Miller v. Thane, one of the few securities class action lawsuits tried to verdict since 1995. This case was named one of the "Top Ten Defense Verdicts" in California by the Daily Journal and was recently affirmed by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has lectured and authored articles on a variety of securities topics, such as protecting companies from shareholder class actions, and the duties and responsibilities of directors and officers under the Sarbanes-Oxley and Dodd-Frank Acts.
Tyukody specializes in defending underwriters, issuers and individual officers and directors in securities class actions, derivative cases, M&A cases and SEC proceedings. He counsels the audit committees or special committees of Fortune 500 companies conducting special investigations, and provides securities advice to numerous companies, including those considering or intending to go public.
Tyukody received his B.S., magna cum laude, from Duke University and his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School where he was associate editor of The University of Chicago Law Review. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of California and the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
He can be reached at 213.426.2627 or email@example.com.
