DENVER - Leventhal, Brown & Puga P.C. has announced that founding partner Jim Leventhal was invited to join The Inner Circle of Advocates, a group consisting of the nation's best 100 trial lawyers. Leventhal was asked to join The Inner Circle of Advocates, an invitation-only group of the best plaintiff's lawyers in the United States, based on his extraordinary career and numerous successes in the courtroom.
Since its inception in 1972, the Inner Circle of Advocates organization has included the top plaintiff trial attorneys in the nation among its membership. Membership in The Inner Circle of Advocates is based on criteria that include an applicant's performance and success in the courtroom. The Inner Circle carefully evaluates experience, reputation, judicial references and peer evaluations to identify the best 100 trial lawyers in the country. Typically, applicants are expected to have 50 jury trials and at least three verdicts of $1 million or a verdict in excess of $10 million to be considered for membership.
As founding and senior partner of Leventhal, Brown & Puga P.C., Colorado's leading medical malpractice and personal injury law firm, Leventhal manages a team of 14 highly skilled lawyers. For more than 30 years, he has successfully litigated medical malpractice and catastrophic personal injury cases in Colorado and across the United States.
Since he began practicing law 36 years ago, Leventhal has garnered a highly coveted legal career. In July 2011, he will assume the responsibility of chairperson of the American Association of Justice's Professional Negligence Section. In 2010, he received recognition as the Best Medical Malpractice Lawyer and Best Personal Injury Lawyer in Colorado by Best Lawyers in America.
Leventhal serves on the Board of Directors for the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association; the Board of Governors for the American Association for Justice, formerly American Trial Lawyers Association (ATLA). He also is the current co-chair of the Medical Malpractice Committee for the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. He received the Kenneth M. Kripke Lifetime Achievement Award from the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association in 2006 and has been named a Super Lawyer by Colorado Super Lawyers, every year since 2006, when the listings began. He is ranked one of the Top 50 lawyers in Colorado according to Super Lawyers. Over the years, Leventhal has been recognized repeatedly by the legal profession, earning the Best of The Bar Award in Plaintiff's Medical Malpractice - Colorado 2005, from the Denver Business Journal in conjunction with the Denver Bar Association. In October 2003, he was elected co-chairperson of the Medical Negligence Information Group for the AAJ when it was ATLA, a position dedicated to educating attorneys about medicine and medical negligence.
In addition to his legal work, Leventhal has sponsored continuing medical education courses to educate physicians to ensure medical errors do not occur. He also supports many local and national charities and community organizations.
Leventhal resides in Greenwood Village, Colo. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Denver. Leventhal has been practicing law since 1974. He began his legal career as a public defender with the State of Colorado. In 1978, he joined K. Norman Kripke, a founder of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, as an associate handling personal injury and medical malpractice work. In 1981, Leventhal started his own firm emphasizing personal injury and medical malpractice, and was a sole practitioner for several years.
The Inner Circle's mission is to promote the highest standards of courtroom competence and the mutual fellowship and exchange of knowledge among outstanding trial lawyers. Membership is limited to attorneys of exceptional qualifications who are respected among their peers and who are experienced and skillful in the handling of courtroom litigation. Membership in The Inner Circle of Advocates is testament to its members' accomplishments as plaintiff trial attorneys.
