Reed Smith Gets High Profile Energy Partner from Patton Boggs


Amy Koch Joins Firm’s Corporate & Securities Practice in the D.C. Office

Amy Koch, a  partner in the D.C. office of Patton Boggs, has joined Reed Smith LLP as a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

Ms. Koch has served clients in the energy industry for over 25 years and was formerly Patton Boggs’ senior partner responsible for strategic initiatives in the energy industry. 

“Amy’s expertise is a tremendous resource for our domestic and international clients in energy-related industries,” said Stewart Dolin, Reed Smith’s Corporate & Securities Practice Co-Chair.  “Her interests and skills are exceptionally well aligned with the firm’s renewable energy practice, as well as our London Energy Trade & Commodities practice.  Amy’s significant experience advising large independent power producers, lenders and large industrials on energy regulation will provide additional depth to our firmwide energy team.”

Ms. Koch has advised international investors, lenders and industrial companies on federal and state energy regulatory and transactional matters involving the successful acquisition, debt restructuring and financing of electric generating assets totaling over $14 billion since 2003.

Over the course of her career Ms. Koch has advised  on the acquisition and utility regulation of solar, wind, geothermal, conventional hydroelectric, pumped storage, hydrokinetic, and natural gas-fired generating facilities .

Ms. Koch also advises renewable resource developers, power marketers, and industrial companies on FERC and NERC compliance requirements, state retail competition opportunities, participation in RTO/ISO markets, electric market design issues, as well as the development of interconnection facilities, wholesale and retail power agreements, transmission agreements,

A 1981 graduate of George Washington University Law School, Ms. Koch joined Patton Boggs from Cameron McKenna LLP, where she was also a partner.  She is a member of the Energy Bar Association.
