"Mediating Workers' Comp Claims, Liens and Other Disputes" is the topic of a free webinar on Dec. 1 from WorkCompCentral Education, the company announced today.
Former Oakland Presiding Judge George Mason and longtime workers' comp legal specialist Frank Russo will present a one-hour continuing education program at 1 p.m. on Dec. 1. This program is for risk managers, applicants' and defense attorneys, lien claimants and hearing representatives, brokers, employers and human resource professionals, insurance carriers, TPAs and anyone involved in claims litigation, including WCAB judges.
One continuing-education credit hour is available for California State Bar members, California Claims Professionals, and California insurance brokers. Discussion points will include:
- When to mediate a claim or lien
- How the process differs from a claim/lien trial
- Common misconceptions
- Cost savings vs. a trial
- Resolving liens in batches
- How talking can save the claimant-employer relationship
- Better return-to-work rates through mediation.
Mason was appointed a workers' compensation judge in 1982, and retired as presiding judge of the Oakland Appeals Board in 2004. In 1986, he was selected to serve as one of for asbestos judges for California. Mason served from 2001- to 2003 as the acting chief deputy for the Administrative Director of the Division of Workers' Compensation.
Frank Russo has resolved almost 10,000 cases over three decades, while specializing in workers' comp, civil litigation, employment disputes and personal injury law. He is a certified Workers' Compensation specialist with the State Bar of California and a past president of the California Applicants' Attorneys Association. Russo is a lecturer and author about workers' compensation law. He served as an arbitration panel member with the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board.
