UAE: Public Prosecution Warns Against Price Manipulation

Gulf News, 27 April 2026: The UAE Public Prosecution has stressed that price manipulation is a criminal offence under Federal Decree‑Law No. 36/2023 on the Regulation of Competition, reaffirming the state’s commitment to fair competition and consumer protection.

In a statement issued on its official social media channels, the Prosecution clarified that economic activity in the UAE operates within a free‑market framework governed by law, where practices that distort competition or harm consumers are prohibited. The law bans monopolistic behaviour, anti‑competitive agreements, and abuse of dominant market positions, ensuring a fair and sustainable economic environment.

The Prosecution emphasised its role in investigating economic crimes and enforcing Federal Decree‑Law No. 36/2023 provisions, thereby safeguarding the national economy, maintaining market balance, and protecting consumer rights. It added that coordination among government entities is essential to tackling violations and keeping markets fair and stable.
