Which is the more popular holiday: Mother’s Day or Father’s Day? The answer that we uncovered may surprise you.
According to media monitoring and news analysis using LexisNexis Newsdesk™, approximately 328,000 stories were filed about Mother’s Day back in May. But contrary to popular belief, it seems Father’s Day is almost as popular a media topic – almost. This past weekend’s celebration of all things Dad netted just over 211,000 broadcast, print and online news clips.
We also tracked the positive, neutral and negative sentiment of articles published about Mother’s Day compared to those published about Father’s Day. Interestingly enough, 50.62 percent of media coverage of Mother’s Day was ranked positively, while 59.74 percent of media coverage of Father’s Day was ranked positively.
Does the more positive trajectory of media coverage indicate that dads are winning the parental popularity contest? Or is it simply that Father’s Day got the short end of the stick for so long that Americans are making up for it now? As Dad would say, “Go ask your mother.”
