A Deeper Look into the 5 "P"s of Human Rights

Posted on 04-05-2017 by Anna Stevens

Two years ago, the United Nations set 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) to “end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all” by 2030. This astounding effort, led by 193 countries, encourages organizations and citizens alike to take action and change the world for the better.

Whether you are focused on corporate social responsibility, human relations, public relations or supply chain management, human rights and sustainable development goals have an impact. We’ve launched  a new Human Rights Around the World and In the News tracker to monitor media related to the U.N.’s sustainable development goals to make it easier for you to stay on top of these important issues.

Within the site, we’ve grouped the SDGs into the five groupings—Peace, People, Prosperity, Planet, and Partnership—to easily track and follow the trends in news coverage and identify the stories and progress being made toward achieving the goals. Interactive charts show coverage over time and other news trends. While at the microsite, hover over and click on the charts to learn more about the content behind the data points. If you are running a blog or site to track the SDGs, you can even snag the embed code to include the chart within your own page!

So which topics impact you the most? Here is a quick look into the 5 “P”s:

1. Peace

The first initiative in this list—peace—begins with eradicating poverty, hunger, inequality, and injustice around the world. Our up-to-date tracker compares daily coverage between all aspects of peace identified by the U.N. and our interactive map identifies locations across the globe that have recently published content related to peace and justice.

2. People

People make up this world—empowering health, education, and gender equality for all. In this section of the microsite, you will learn how the media is covering these efforts over time. You will also get an inside look into the geographical makeup of gender equality and which countries are promoting a more positive or more negative message through their media outlets.

3. Prosperity

Prosperity means growing a strong, inclusive, and transformative economy. Our prosperity graph uncovers ways various communities are providing basic necessities to help fuel innovation and economic growth. Stay on top of daily news coverage, and see which topics are trending in our interactive pie chart.

4. Planet

A healthy planet fosters a brighter future, and media analysis reveals the voices that are helping to combat climate change. Take a deeper look into the conservation of life on both land and water, and the actions that countries are taking day by day.

5.  Partnership

The last on our list, partnership, reveals all of the companies and organizations that are currently partnering with the U.N. to actively promote human rights and sustainable development. Social Media is inspiring action each day, and you can stay on top of all of the influencers that are making a difference.

With our Human Rights Around the World and In the News tracker, staying up-to-date on the latest information has never been so easy.
