Looking Back at ALA Annual 2017

Posted on 07-13-2017 by Lindsey Lambert

The exhibit hall was bustling with attendees at the 2017 ALA Annual Conference in Chicago. The 5-day event brought speakers, exhibits, programs, award celebrations, preconferences, networking and social events to people from all around the United States.

Speakers included Sarah Jessica Parker who kicked off Book Club Central, bestselling author Dr. Brene Brown who spoke on “Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging & Courage to stand Alone” (also the title of her new book to be released in Fall 2017), and closing general session speaker Hillary Rodham Clinton who “delivered a speech combining uplifting support for librarians and accounts of her personal experiences in Washington.”

If you weren’t sitting in the seats frantically taking notes from the phenomenal speakers and programs, you were probably walking through the hundreds of exhibits exploring new technology, the latest innovations in literature, publishing houses and of course the highlight of ALA for us, Nexis Uni, the latest Academic Research Platform.

For many librarians and students in attendance at ALA, this was the first time customers saw the brand new platform live.

“It was great to see the look on customers faces when they saw Nexis Uni for the first time,” said Sean Donegan, Client Manager for Nexis Uni. “As we showed attendees all the new features and functionality, they were astonished how far we’ve come with the platform in such a short period of time.”

“I love the new interface, it looks much more user friendly than the current setup. For instructing undergraduates, it will be much easier to explain the whole purpose of Nexis Uni which is to gather reliable information from newspapers and databases,” said Dave Sibley, Graduate Assistant and PHD Student at Dominican University.

Not only did attendees enjoy seeing the new interface, but the Nexis Uni booth hosted an interactive prize wheel for a number of exciting prizes including giftcards, Nexis Uni swag and a few lucky winners won Amazon Echo Dots and an Amazon Tap. Not to mention the Nexis Uni kitten and puppy bookmarks which were a huge hit as people passed by the booth.

New to Nexis Uni? You don’t want to miss out on our newest research platform. With Uni you can expect academic research aligned to the needs and expectations of today’s students, while fitting the needs of the most seasoned researcher with an intuitive search and incomparable content.
