Despite legal challenges that have blocked new state laws aimed at protecting kids from the potential harms of social media from taking effect, lawmakers in multiple states, including Indiana, Nevada, New York, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Wyoming, will consider such social media regulations this year.
“Although several kids’ privacy and online safety laws are wrapped up in the courts, I expect we will see another year with a heavy focus on bills seeking to regulate kids’ online experiences,” said Bailey Sanchez, deputy director of the Future of Privacy Forum’s U.S. legislation team.
