Pro Se Manual: Asylum, Withholding of Removal, and Convention Against Torture Protection for Survivors of Domestic Violence

December 21, 2013 (1 min read)

"In response to a call from advocates, CGRS developed a pro se manual for survivors of domestic violence seeking asylum, withholding of removal, and Convention Against Torture protection in the United States.  We were troubled by countless stories of women who were eligible for asylum but who did not apply because they were unaware that it exists, or because they were unable to secure legal representation due to the lack of access in immigration detention or the high costs of hiring an attorney.  By distributing this manual to places with the most need, such as immigration detention centers and community based organizations, we hope that women fleeing domestic violence in their home countries will be better informed about the availability of relief and will successfully find safety in the United States.

You can download the manual in English (here), Spanish (forthcoming), and Haitian Creole (forthcoming). You can also request that a copy be mailed to you by contacting us at cgrs@uchastings.edu.

To otherwise receive assistance in a case, please fill out this request for assistance form." - CGRS, Dec. 2013.
